Q:i'm a junior in high school this year, so i'll be applying later, but i was wondering if legacy has any weight in applications to brown? my dad went there for undergrad and still donates money to the school. do you think this might help my chances?
Probably a little bit. We aren’t as obsessed as legacy as say, Harvard, but it definitely has a slight impact on your decision!
Q:alumni interview pointers!?
Be yourself! Be confident. Have a copy of your resume with you (if you want). Express your interest in Brown. Don’t be scared to ask them questions (ex: favorite thing about Brown, favorite class, things to do at Brown/in Providence, etc). Don’t stress over it! The alums are generally pretty nice and not wanting to scare you in any way. It’s just a way for Brown to get another look at you!
You got this!
Q:Hi, I am a senior in high school and will be applying to Brown this fall. I would like to visit the campus during the week before I apply, and I was wondering if I could schedule an alumni interview that could take place on campus. I would also like to speak to an engineering professor, Professor Robert Hunt in particular. If you could let me know if any of this is possible, or who to contact to find out further information, that would be great, thanks!
Honestly, neither of us work in admissions, but we asked our friend who does and he said it was pretty unlikely, especially if you have a specific person you want. It sounds like you know this guy, and he won’t be allowed to interview you if you have any sort of relationship with him. Ask him for a rec letter or something? I would contact the alumni network (https://alumni.brown.edu/volunteer/basc/contact.html) and ask for more information though.
The Little Bear Fountain was a gift from Theodore Francis Green, who promoted the bear as Brown’s mascot. It’s located outside the faculty club.
“Given by Alumni and Undergraduates to Brown University to symbolize those qualities of strength, courage, endurance, which go far to make men invincible.”
